Description
A type of motorbike that has come to be regarded as the elite among the breed is the line of machines produced by the famous German Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, or BMW Company. This company is renowned for its engineering expertise in aero engines, cars and heavy trucks, but it is their highly acclaimed motor cycle designs that have given the Company its reputation for speed and reliability. The two 1:8th scale BMW kits in the range are modelled on the R75/5 machine, one being the normal road machine, the other the police version. The police in Europe chose this bike for its ability to cruise at over 100 m.p.h. along the German Autobahn system and other continental motorways. The kit, therefore, accurately represents the major feature of the bike, the powerful horizontally apposed engine. Added authenticity is provided by moulded cables and plug leads, chromed exhausts, wheels and handlebars, authentic transfers and rubber-like tyres. Revolving wheels and working steering are further features of these remarkable kits. Length 258mm. – Taken from the 1981 edition catalogue
